Job Interview Technique

Most of you feel a sense of nervousness when we are attending a interview for a job. The following dos and donts would help you to gain some confidence while attending the interview. These tips would also help you to get a favourable outcome.

Job Interview Tips

  • It is good to complete the preparation for your interview a day in advance.
  • Get enough rest before attending the interview.
  • Do not get overwhelmed or excited by small things over controversial issues before attending the interview. Do not involve in anything, which would affect your concentration adversely.
  • Have enough information about the amount of time, which would require reaching the required designation. Be prepared for traffic congestions. Also, keep some money for parking meters.
  • Avoid smoking, chewing gums or any such things. Never ever, drink before attending an interview.
  • Offer a firm handshake to all interviewers. Also, call the interviewers by their name, which would create an impression that your memory level is sharp. This would also give an impression that you are assertive.
  • Sit comfortable and your body language should be positive.
  • Your voice should be audible during the interviews. Don't use fillers such as, Uh, you know. Do not use slang. This is one of the most important things you should keep in mind.
  • Do not use very complex words, which would make the interviewers confused. Make sure that the interviewers understand what you say.
  • A confident smile is good, which would help you to be relaxed. This would also help you in keeping good rapport with the interviewers. But don't smile too casually.
  • Try to use positive words. Avoid words, such as, 'I think', 'I would,' If,' and 'I wish,' etc.
  • Project yourself as being confident with positive energy enthusiasm. Make hand gestures to create rapport with the interviewers, but avoid too many hand gestures. Be positive in your attitude.
  • Be relating with each interviewers throughout the interview. Keep constant eye contact with all the interviewers throughout the interview process.
  • Don't try to dominate the interviewers at any point of time.
  • Lay emphasise on your qualifications and strengths. Make a point that you are fit for the job and you are the ideal person.
  • Do not dominate the interview.
  • Like in any battle, make your weaknesses as your strengths. Don't get bogged down by your weaknesses.
  • Try to windup the interview with a positive note, with an impressive closing statement.
