About JobCentre Plus
The job centre can usually be found on most city high-streets and is where people go to find employment, claim jobseeker's allowance, and get free careers advice. The job centers are government funded and were formally known as The Employment Service, until the Employment Service and the Social Security offices were merged in 2002 to form the JobCentre Plus. The Job Centre helps people who face barriers to gaining employment, such as disabilities, to find employment.
Job Centre Vacancies
Job seekers can typically find local job vacancies displayed on cards at the job centre. They are usually arranged by job type or by the hours, such as full-time jobs and part-time jobs. People looking for work can also access information about jobs, training opportunities, careers advice, and benefits, using an electronic system known as the Labour Market System. The LMS can be accessed at the job centre using JobPoints. Much of the information found in the LMS can also be found on the JobCentre Plus website. Employers can advertise their job vacancies at the job center branches or online through the website.
Job Seeker's allowance at the Job Center
Job Seeker's allowance is the benefit paid to unemployed people who are actively looking for work and is administered through the JobCenter Plus. Job seekers may qualify for this benefit if they are actively seeking work and have made enough National Security contributions. If a claimant hasn't made enough contributions they may be entitled to an Income Based Job Seekers Allowance. The amount each person gets is dependent on their circumstances. The job centre is responsible for making sure people receiving benefits are actively seeking employment and fullfilling their responsibilities under the Job Seeker's Allowance.
